ASUS launches a 34-inch curved monitor that can wirelessly charge your smartphone

ASUS has launched yet another premium monitor, something it’s very good at. The monitor’s name is quite mouthful: ASUS Designo Curve MX34VQ. The monitor was actually unveiled sometime in mid-2016, but the company has started shipping it this week. That’s quite a long time between the unveiling and shipping. Yet, we’ve seen smartphones that haven’t been shipped for well over two years now. Getting back to the monitor, it’s a 34-inch ultra-wide monitor with a VA panel and a resolution of 3,440 x 1,440 pixels. This places it somewhere between QHD and 4K resolutions.

The interesting bit about this monitor is that it has an integrated Qi wireless charging module in its base, so you can place your smartphone (hoping that it supports Qi wireless charging) on wireless charging while you are being productive or just being a keyboard warrior on Facebook and Reddit. The wireless charging base (5W/1A) glows in blue when it is active. The MX34VQ’s VA panel has a curvature of 1800R, a refresh rate of 100Hz, grey-to-grey response time of 4ms, and 178°/178° viewing angles. It has reach a peak brightness of up to 300cd/m² and its contrast ratio is 3000:1.

It has three HDMI 2.0 ports, a DisplayPort 1.2 port, and a 3.5mm audio jack for hooking up headphones or speakers. The ASUS Designo Curve MX34VQ, which can show 16.7 million colours, also has two 8W stereo speakers (developed by Harman Kardon) built into its frame. It’s available for pre-order from Amazon and B&H in the US for $799 (roughly ₹53,517), and the availability is expected to start in a few weeks. For its specifications and features, it’s quite decently priced. Generally, monitors with similar specifications and Qi wireless charging bases retail for around $899.
